What this covers

SDG&E’s savings center lists rebate and incentive programs, and some of them cover weatherization line items that handymen typically scope: exterior caulk replacement, door and window weatherstripping, and attic hatch sealing. Rebate amounts and eligibility vary by program, measure type, and income qualification, so check the current terms on SDG&E’s rebates page before you plan the work.

Why this matters for San Diego homeowners

The rebate structure favors measurable-impact weatherization over cosmetic work. Door and window perimeter re-caulking, attic access sealing, and exterior penetration sealing (around pipes, conduits, vents) are all eligible and all fall within handyman scope.

For homes in coastal microclimates, Coronado, Del Mar, Imperial Beach, where exterior caulk fails every 12–18 months, the rebate can offset most of a seasonal re-caulk cost. For inland and backcountry properties, the larger wins are usually attic sealing and door weatherstripping where seasonal temperature swings drive air infiltration.

How to apply

Start at SDG&E’s rebates page (link above) and confirm which program fits your project. In general, the process looks like this:

  1. Contractor (or homeowner DIY) completes the work.
  2. Homeowner submits receipts and the documentation the program requires.
  3. Rebate is issued per the program’s stated terms, often as a credit on the SDG&E bill.

For jobs that are a mix of rebate-eligible and ineligible work, we itemize separately on the invoice so the rebate submission is clean.
