Deck and fence repair in San Diego County
Salt air from the coast accelerates wood rot on decks and fences, a board that looks solid from above can be punky underneath. We replace individual boards, posts, and rails rather than pushing for a full rebuild when the structure is sound. Redwood, cedar, and pressure-treated lumber are all in our wheelhouse, and we know what the City of San Diego and unincorporated county areas require for permits on deck work.
What's included in this service?
- Individual deck board replacement, matching species, spacing, and fastener pattern
- Joist and beam assessment, probe for rot and replace compromised structural members
- Fence board, picket, and rail replacement for wood and composite fencing
- Fence post repair, sistering a rotted post or setting a new concrete footing
- Deck stair repair: broken treads, loose stringers, and missing handrails
- Handrail installation and repair to current code (42" height for decks over 30" off grade)
- Pre-stain prep: nail pops set, boards sanded flush, and loose fasteners replaced
When do you need this service?
- A board is soft, spongy, or cracks when you put weight on it
- A fence post is leaning, it may be rotted at the base even if it looks solid above grade
- The deck has nail pops creating a trip hazard
- A railing wobbles when you grab it, a safety issue, especially with kids
- You want to restain or reseal the deck but boards are in poor condition first
What do homeowners ask about Deck & Fence?
Do I need a permit to repair my deck in San Diego?
Replacing like-for-like boards and rails on an existing permitted deck is typically maintenance, no permit required. Adding a new deck, significantly expanding an existing one, or modifying the structure (posts, beams, ledger) may require a permit from the City of San Diego or the county. We'll flag scope questions before we start.
Can you match the existing wood species and stain?
For the wood, yes, we stock redwood and cedar for patching, and pressure-treated for anything in ground contact. For the stain, we can take a sample to a paint store and get a close match, though weathered wood rarely matches new wood perfectly until the new boards age a season.
My fence post is leaning but the boards are fine, can you just fix the post?
Yes. We dig out the old post and footing, check the depth (minimum 1/3 of post height below grade per code), and reset a new post in concrete. The existing boards are removed, the new post sets, and we reattach the boards. Standard fence post replacement takes about half a day.
How do I know if the structure is safe or needs more than just board replacement?
We probe every joist and beam in the repair area before touching boards. If we find soft spots below, we'll show you what we found and give you options. We won't put new boards over a compromised frame.

Had three holes in my hallway from a botched DIY attempt, different sizes, one with texture around it. He matched the orange peel texture exactly and I genuinely can't find the patches now. Priced fairly, no surprises on the invoice.
My living room wall is stucco over concrete block, two other people said no. Fix Pro came out, assessed it, had the right hardware, and mounted my 75-inch TV same day. Clean install, cables managed through the wall. Exactly what I needed.
He repainted my master bedroom and the hallway leading to it, a tricky color transition I'd been putting off for two years. Clean prep work, no drips on my oak floors, and the edges at the ceiling are straighter than when the house was built. Hired him again for the living room.
