A door that slams shut is fighting the closer, a sagging hinge, or a missing stop. Edge scraping is door rubbing. A latch that misses the strike is not latching. Keep those tickets separate.
GSC on this site recorded 194 impressions for “door slamming repairs san diego” and 157 for “door slamming repairs near me” in the 28 days ending 2026-10-24, all landing on the door-repair hub. This page answers the slamming job itself.
Name the part that is slamming
Operate the door the way you usually do. Note whether it slams from a breeze, from a closer that never catches, or from a hinge that lets the leaf drop into the stop.
Exterior closer. A hydraulic or spring closer on a front or garage-side door should slow the last few inches. If it dumps the leaf into the latch, the closer is the first thing to photograph: arm, bracket, and the last-inch speed screw if one is visible. Do not guess a brand setting from memory.
Hinge sag. If the latch corner has dropped, the leaf hits the stop or the head jamb before the latch lines up. Shoot each hinge leaf and screw. Spinning screws in a hollow-core interior door are common in 1960s and 1970s ranch stock from Clairemont, Serra Mesa, and parts of El Cajon.
Split or missing stop. The thin strip the door hits can split, pull nails, or go missing. That is a carpentry ticket, not a closer rebuild.
West-facing coastal doors in Ocean Beach, Point Loma, and Imperial Beach catch afternoon wind. Inland, a slamming interior door is more often hinge sag or a closer that was never installed. Those are layout notes, not a ranked cause table for your house.
What to photograph before you request a quote
One wide shot of the closed door with the surrounding wall in the frame. One shot with the door open to 90 degrees so the hinge side is visible. Close-ups of each hinge, the stop, and any closer body. If the door is on a west wall, wait until the sun is off the face so the gap is readable.
Write one sentence per photo. “Top hinge screws spinning, closer dumps the last two inches, stop split at the latch” is more useful than a dozen similar close-ups.
If several openings slam, list each door on its own line. A hall closet is not the same ticket as a front door closer.
Closer, hinge, or new slab
Ask the matched pro to say which of those three they are quoting. A closer rebuild on an aluminum storefront-style entry is a different product class from a residential wood slab. Fire-rated or solid-core units need that rating named in the request.
Confirm current CSLB status for the proposed contract. Confirm permit rules with the building department that serves the address. City of San Diego Development Services publishes its own bulletins. Other cities set their own rules.
Fix Pro San Diego does not publish a closer or hinge menu. A captured Taskrabbit San Diego door-repair listing on related pages said door repair prices begin at $50 per hour. That is their marketplace figure, not a Fix Pro rate.
